Blakely's Procedure

We found out at Blakely's 1st doctor's visit that she was tongue tied.  Once the doctor pointed it out to us, we realized that she was tongue tied pretty bad.  He said that we could watch it until her next appointment and see if it loosens up itself or if we wanted to talk about having it clipped.  If we didn't have it clipped there would be a chance that she could have speech problems when she got older.  We noticed between that appointment and her 2 month well check up that it had loosened up, but not enough.  The doctor sent us to an ENT to get his opinion, and it was the same, we didn't have to do it, but we take the chance of speech problems.  So we decided to get it done as soon as possible.  She had to be put under and that was a little nerve racking for mom, but she did great and was only under about 30 minutes.  The procedure only takes about 3 minutes so that was nice it was so quick.  She was great all day Friday, but I think had a little pain on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  Poor little thing doesn't realize that the more she cries, the more it's going to hurt because she is moving that tongue around like crazy crying.  We could already tell on Friday that she was moving that tongue around a lot more so that was good.

Her first couple of weeks

We got home from the hospital Wednesday night and Thursday had some friends come visit.  Hardly anyone got to hold Blakely because she was either sleeping or eating when they came to the hospital.  My best friend brought her little boy over on Friday night to meet Blakely, who he calls Fox.  He loves her so much and can't wait for her to get bigger to play with him.  Blakely lost her 10% of weight that newborns normally lose, so the doctor wanted us to supplement until my milk came in.  Ben took her back to the doctor Monday afternoon and she had gained almost a full pound so we didn't have to supplement anymore.  That Monday morning we had a wonderful photographer come to our house to capture Blakely's cuteness. :)  She got some great shots of her and our first professional family photo.  That afternoon I started feeling bad, I was getting the shakes again and started running fever.  I took it very easy the rest of the day, Ben would let me sleep and bring Blakely to me when she would need to eat.  Then I felt better the next day, but on Wednesday afternoon it got really bad again.  My fever spiked to 104 and I couldn't stop shaking long enough to call the doctor so Ben called for me and they treated me for a uterine infection.  I was taking 2 antibiotics, Ibuprofen and tylenol constantly.  I am so thankful to have the most wonderful, caring husband in the world.  He took such great care of me.  On Friday the 27th we headed to the Petroleum Club in Fort Worth to celebrate my grandfather's 90th birthday.  Blakely was an aboslute angel there.  Ben went to work that next week so my mom would come over to stay with me and help me out until I was better. 

I am so thankful for such wonderful family and friends to help take care of me and Blakely when I was so sick. 

Blakely had a busy first couple of weeks meeting her aunts, uncles and cousins.  They all fell in love with her of course.

She also got to attend her first Rangers game, suite style. :)  They played the LA Angels and won. 

Blakely's Birth Story

I know it is has been awhile since I updated the blog, but I have been busy loving on my little girl!

Here is her birth story...

We went into the hospital on July 15th at 5PM to start a cytotec induction at 6pm.  Once we got all the paperwork filled out and questions answered, they were able to give me my first round of cytotec at 8pm, and I was to receive one every 3 hours until 6am and then they would start pitocin if needed.  After a couple of hours of the first cytotec, I was contracting every 2 minutes, but I wasn't feeling them.  The nurse asked the on-call doctor if it was okay to give me my next round, and the on-call decided that she wasn't going to do that anymore and they were going to start pitocin instead.  My doctor normally starts it at a 4, but this doctor decided to start it at a 2.  I received pitocin ALL night long and didn't feel anything.  Before the pitocin, my blood pressure was really high so they took blood and also a urine sample to make sure everything looked okay, and it did.  My OB doctor came in at 9am to see how I was doing, only to learn that her orders had no been followed and she was very upset because she said they wasted 12 hours of our time. 

The original plan was that I wanted to try to go without an epidural, but my doctor told me that I was to get my epidural between a 5-8 on the pain scale.  She said this because they were going to up my pitocin every 30 minutes and it was going to be intense.  They turned the it off for an hour because I was saturated and then my doctor broke my water and then they started the pitocin after that hour and kept increasing it every 30 minutes.  I was feeling fine, and then the pain was getting more intense so I got my epidural around 1pm.  I was very nervous about the epidural, but the anesthesiologist was awesome, he did such a good job and it wasn't painful at all.  I was fine and didn't feel any pain until around 5pm, and it started wearing off a little.  My mom had been at the hospital all day with us, and then my dad got there around 4 and kept talking about how he was hungry, I think he was just trying to rub in the fact that I couldn't eat. Lol!  Ben's parents got there around 5:30 or so and I started feeling more pressure, so we decided it was time for everyone to leave the room so Ben and I could be alone and start the process.  I was dilated to a 1 when I went to the hospital, and was still a one until about 4 pm and I had only gone to a 3.  Then by about 6:00 or somewhere around there, I was dilated to a 10!! I started pushing about 6:30 and she was born at 7:46pm.  It was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced!  And to see the look on Ben's face when she was born was the best feeling.  She was stuck under my pelvic bone, so they were going to need to use the forceps to deliver her.  When they use those, they are required to call in the NICU team, so we had a ton of people in our rooom.  Once she was born she was able to lay on my stomach for a minute before they took her to look her over.  Ben went to be with her, and then I started shaking really bad and had the hardest time keeping my eyes open.  When I delivered the placenta, it was in pieces, so I ended up having to have an emergency D&C.  The nurses were taking great care of me so that Ben could be with Blakely.  The nurse asked me if it was okay for Daddy to hold her and I said yes, so he brought her over to me to love on.  I couldn't do much though becuase I was so out of it from the pain meds they had to give me.  I don't remember much other than Ben walking around with her and my mom and mother-in-law coming in to kiss her on the head.  My doctor went out to talk to my family and friends and let them know what had gone on and that I wouldn't remember anything so everyone needed to go home (and she's right, I didn't remember things until about 4am).  I had my best friends in the waiting room along with our parents, such a wonderful support group.  I couldn't ask for better friends.  Ben was left to watch over Blakely and myself all night, so needless to say he didn't get much sleep. :)  He woke both of us up every 3 hours so I could feed her.  We spent that night in Labor and Delivery, and then Tuesday I was moved to post-partum.

We found out Tuesday morning that I took in 3 pints of blood because I had lost so much blood after delivery.  My hemoglobin level was 11.4 before I delivered and they ended up restoring it to 11 after those 3 pints.  Blakely did great with feedings at the hospital, and was released Wednesday morning around 10AM.  I on the other hand, was not released until about 8:30 that night due to some mis-understanding from the on-call doctor.  We couldn't wait to get home and settled with our baby girl.

39 Weeks

How Far Along? 39 Weeks
Weight Gain? About 30lbs
Sleep? It comes and goes, some nights I sleep great and others my mind is racing
Maternity Clothes? All the time
Movement? Yes!  She is running out of room, but still moving around a lot
Miss Anything? Not really missing much.  I'm just trying to soak up the last week of feeling this little Biscuit move around because I know that I will miss that
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Still liking sweets of any kind
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs? Not really.  I have had a few contractions, but nothing to get excited about
Best Moment of this Week? This past weekend was great.  Ben and I got to visit with good friends, we went to eat just the 2 of us and I also talked him into going to the spa with me for a mani/pedi.  It was nice to spend some time with just him
Belly Button In or Out? Flat, sometimes it looks like it is about to come out, but it's still pretty flat
Wedding Rings On or Off? Off, I am just wearing a plain silver band because I don't want to take the chance of getting my wedding ring stuck
Happy or Moody Most of the Time? Happy!  Can't wait to meet our little Biscuit on Monday, if not sooner
Looking Forward To? Our last appointment Wednesday afternoon.  And then after that, I can't wait to spend our last weekend as just the 2 of us and meet our little girl on the 16th!!!

38 Weeks

How Far Along? 38 Weeks, getting close!
Weight Gain? 30lbs
Sleep? It's okay, I just can't seem to get comfortable, and my hands and fingers fall asleep so I wake up to them tingling
Maternity Clothes? All the time
Movement? Yes.  She's not as active, but still VERY active.  She especially liks to be active when I am in the pool
Miss Anything? I miss a lot of things, but I have really enjoyed this pregnancy so I am not complaining.  I know I am going to miss feeling her move all the time
Aversions? No
Food Cravings? Still fruit and sweets
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs? Having some braxton hicks here and there
Best Moment this Week? We went to the doctor yesterday, and I am 70% effaced and barely 1cm dialated.  I am okay with her waiting it out until her Mimi and Dado get home on Friday at the earliest.  But I would really be okay with her waiting until the 15th or 16th.
Belly Button In or Out? Flat
Wedding Rings On or Off? Off.  I tried to wear them on Friday and by the evening my fingers were swollen and I could barely get them off.  I am just wearing a silver band that my mom is letting me borrow.
Happy or Moody Most of the Time? Happy.  Getting anxious for her arrival, and really enjoying time with my hubby and friends
Looking Forward To? Our next appointment on the 11th to see if anything has changed.  If nothing has changed, then I am really looking forward to the 16th when I will be induced!

37 Weeks

How Far Along? 37 Weeks
Weight Gain? About 30lbs, it fluctuates
Sleep? Sleep is okay, just getting up more to use the restrooom
Maternity Clothes? All the time
Movement? YES!  She is constantly moving.  She is pushing so hard against my pelvic bone, I think she's trying to get out. :)
Miss Anything? Not Really
Aversions? None
Food Cravings? Sweets and Fruit
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs?  Not yet :(  Was hoping for some signs at my last doctor's appt.
Best Moment of the Week? Setting our induction date if she doesn't come on her own.  We will be induced on July 16th!
Belly Button In or Out? Flat
Wedding Rings On or Off? I have decided to stop wearing them since my fingers are swelling a little in this heat.  I can still wear them, but I just don't want to take a chance
Happy or Moody Most of the Time? Happy, although this crazy heat this week is making me a little irritable I'm sure
Looking Forward To? Having a weekend of NO plans and just enjoying hanging with my hubby.  Hoping we can go to dinner and a movie maybe.

36 Weeks

How Far Along? 36 Weeks
Weight Gain? About 25lbs
Sleep? Good for the most part, just having to get up more to use the restroom than I have in the past
Maternity Clothes? Pretty much everything is maternity now
Movement? ALL the time!!  I am pretty sure that she used my body as a punching bag Friday night when I laid to go to sleep.  I felt about 5 or 6 "punches" and then that was it for the rest of the night.
Miss Anything?  I miss a lot, but I know I am really going to miss being pregnant.  I love feeling her move all the time!
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Sweets and Fruit
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs? Not yet, just some braxton hicks
Best Moment of the Week? Blakely was blessed at another baby shower that was hosted by 2 of my mom's dear friends.  My aunt and cousin came in from Abilene and surprised me, and that made my day.

Wedding Rings On or Off? On
Happy or Moody Most of the Time? Happy, although I tend to be a little emotional lately. 
Looking Forward To? We have a busy weekend ahead, infant CPR, a friend's 1st birthday party, and then Rangers game with my parents.  Hoping to get some time in the pool as well since it is supposed to be in the 100's by the weekend.  My next appt. is on Monday, so we will see what she says!

5 Weeks to Go!

How Far Along? 35 Weeks
Weight Gain? About 24lbs
Sleep? Sleep has been okay the past week.  Still just getting up about once a night to go to the restroom, and then wake up anytime I roll over
Maternity Clothes? Yes!  Love dresses and skirts to help keep cool
Movement? ALL the time!  She is now lower and pushing on my right hip some days.  We were in the pool all weekend and Sunday it looked like I had an alien trying to come out of my stomach she was moving so much.  Kind of freaky.
Miss Anything? I do miss the occasional cocktail, especially since we are in the pool now.  But other than that, not really.
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Sweets after I eat most days.  I did have a friend tell me about a low calorie dessert she makes and so that cures my cravings. 
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs? Not yet
Best Moment of the Week?  Getting in the pool and it feeling great.  It's like there was pressure taken off my belly when I got in, so that was really nice.
Belly Button In or Out? Neither, it's flat.  She's still trying her hardest to push it out though

Happy or Moody Most of the Time? HAPPY!
Looking Forward To? I have another shower this weekend that is being hosted by 2 of my mom's sweet friends.  I will get to see some family and friends I haven't seen in a long time, so I am really excited about that.

34 Weeks

How Far Along? 34 weeks
Weight Gain? +/-20lbs
Sleep? Been sleeping pretty good, until last night.  I was up every 2 hours last night, I guess Blakely is preparing me for what's to come in the next few weeks.
Maternity Clothes? Mostly yes
Movement? More than ever lately.  Sometimes I think she likes to wait until I get in the car to start going crazy.  There have been a couple of times on the way to work where I thought I was going to have to pull over and use the restroom
Miss Anything? Cocktails
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Loving anything sweet lately.  Trying to eat my frozen fruit bars, but sometimes I like some ice cream like a drumstick

Labor Signs? Not yet
Best Moment of the Week? Our good friend Kelly took some maternity pictures for us, and they turned out awesome!  I can't wait to see all of them!

33 Weeks

Sleep? Sleep okay for the most part.  My mind is racing all the time, so I wake up thinking about things I need to do, and also because of restless legs.

Movement? ALL the time.  She is so active, I love feeling her move all the time

Best Moment of the Week? We are about 95% finished with the nursery.  I can't wait to get it completed, only a couple of more things that will go on the wall and that's it.

Happy or Moody Most of the Time? Happy most of the time.  Last week I was a little moody, but I was dealing with some people that weren't the nicest to deal with

Baby Shower

7 of my best friends hosted an amazing baby shower for me on Sunday.  Everything matched Blakely's decor perfectly!  We had a great time, and I am so thankful for my friends.  Blakely was spoiled!  She received lots of cute outfits, bath stuff, and her car seat and stroller, plus much more.

32 Weeks

How Far Along? 32 week and 1 day in this picture
Weight Gain? +/- 20lbs
Sleep? Sleep comes and goes.  I am just waking up in the middle of the night more and more lately.  Then by about 2 in the afternoon, I could really use a nap
Maternity Clothes? Yes
Movement? All the time and I love feeling it.  I'm pretty sure she waits until I get in the car to drive to work or home and she does a little dance on my bladder.  The other day Ben kissed my belly, making the loud kissing noise and as soon as he kissed my belly, she jabbed my stomach.  Not sure if she liked that or didn't like it. :)

Food Cravings? No cravings, just loving my fruits still.  I am getting heartburn more and more lately

31 Week Update

We have been pretty busy the last few weeks, so I didn't get an update out on week 30.  But not too much has changed.   

How Far Along? 31 weeks
Sleep? Sleep has been okay.  I'm waking up several times to this precious little girl moving around, and my legs bothering me.  But I am sleeping for the most part
Maternity Clothes? Pretty much all the time
Movement?  I love feeling her move around ALL the time.  I am getting more jabs lately that are a little more painful, so think it is her boney arms or legs.  It's crazy to watch my stomach move all over the place in the evenings.
Miss Anything? Cocktails since the weather is getting nice and we have been sitting on the patio so much lately.
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Not really.  I still like to have something sweet, but I don't have to have it
Gender? Girl
Labor Signs? Not yet.  I have had a couple of braxton hicks, but not too many
Best Moment of the Week? Mother's Day and celebrating Ben's birthday.  Ben's parents came over on Sunday and I cooked lunch and then we went to the Rangers game with my parents that night and they WON!  Then Monday was Ben's birthday and we celebrated by going to get him a new Macbook Air and dinner, and then I made homemade keylime cheesecake.

29 Weeks

How Far Along? 29 Weeks
Weight Gain? +/- 18lbs
Sleep?  Haven't been sleeping that great, she is moving a lot at night and then my mind is racing with things to get done
Maternity Clothes? Mostly wearing maternity clothes, but still can wear some of my regular clothes
Movement?  ALL the time!  She is an active little girl.  I love being able to feel her move all the time.  She loves to really start rolling around about 10 or 11 at night.
Miss Anything? Sushi and Wine

Food Cravings? Nothing new, still loving fruit and sweets

Labor Signs? Still too early
Best Moment of the Week? We went to Houston to visit some good friends.  It was so nice to watch all the kids run around and not do a lot.

Looking Forward To? Looking forward to the next 4 days off of work.  Ben and his dad are going to put up the chair rail, baseboards, and crown molding in the nursery tomorrow so I am really excited about that.  Ben and I have a nice dinner planned for tomorrow evening.  Saturday we have a Cinco de Mayo party and then a really good friend's 30th birthday parties, so this weekend is packed with stuff but it will be fun!

28 Weeks

How Far Along? 28 weeks and 4 days today
Weight Gain? About 16lbs
Sleep? I was sleeping good until the last few nights.  Between her moving and my allergies, I have been waking up a lot lately
Maternity Clothes? Mostly
Movement? Yes!  I feel more hard jabs than I was before, she is moving around all the time
Miss Anything? Missing an adult beverage every once in awhile and also sushi
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Still fruit mostly

Best Moment of the Week? We had a very productive weekend.  I planted some flowers, we went to the Shrine Gala and had a great time, and then worked on the nursery.

Looking Forward To?  We are heading to Houston this weekend with 2 other couples and their kids to visit some of our friends so it will be nice to get away for a couple of days.

Weight Gain? I haven't weighed myself in a week, so I don't really know how much I have gained in the last week
Sleep? It is good, although I haven't gotten nearly enough the past few days.  I am exhausted, so hoping to get caught on this week on some sleep

Movement? Most definitely, she has been a night owl the past few nights

Food Cravings? No.  I had my chocolate covered strawberry craving, and that is gone now

Cravings

Last night I was craving chocolate covered strawberries!  I love fruit, even more now that I am pregnant, and last night I really wanted chocolate covered strawberries.  So today, I received this wonderful delivery from my amazing husband!!  He is the best!  They are delicious, and I know the biscuit and I will really enjoy them!

Best Moment this Week? Ben getting the nursery primed, and buying chair rail and baseboards for him to put up once he paints.  Also, her Mimi brought her some really cute outfits back from Round Top, I can't wait for her to wear them

25 Weeks

23 Weeks

Sleep? Hasn't been so great lately.  Anytime I move, she moves it seems.  Plus even though I have a body pillow, my left hip hurts after laying on my left side all night
Maternity Clothes? Some, still able to wear some of my normal shirts
Movement? ALL the time and I love it.  She seems to be most active in the evenings so that has become my favorite time of day.
Miss Anything? Wine, Cocktails.  With the weather warming up and us spending more time outside, I have been craving a drink.
Aversions? Nope
Food Cravings? Still like something sweet after I eat. I love my new find, greek frozen yogurt.

Labor Signs? Still too early

22 Weeks...a late post

GIRL!!!!!

 We had our family that lives in town and a few of our closest friends over for a gender reveal party last Saturday.  We had brunch and then cut the cake to find out what we were having.  It was a really fun experience, and we are very thankful for our wonderful family and friends.  They have been so supportive of everything we have gone through over the last 4.5 years, so this was exciting for us to include them in on our gender reveal.  Our cake was wonderful!!!  If you ever need a cake, cookies, muffins, etc., check out Stir Crazy Baked Goods in Fort Worth.

21 Weeks

How Far Along? 21 Weeks
Weight Gain? 9lbs
Sleep?  Sleeping pretty good.
Maternity Clothes? For my pants mostly, but I can still wear regular shirts
Movement?  All the time.  This little Biscuit is a mover
Miss Anything? Blue Cheese, Ahi Tuna and Wine
Aversions?  Nope
Food Cravings?  Sometimes wanting something sweet after I eat
Gender?  Don't know yet
Labor Signs?  Too early
Best Moment this Week?  Both of my parents got to feel the baby move this past Saturday.

Looking Forward To?  Can't wait for our Gender Reveal Party on Saturday.  I am so ready to start the nursery and start shopping for the baby!

Halfway There!!

How Far Along?  20 Weeks
Weight Gain?  About 7lbs so far
Sleep? Sleeping pretty well, although the past few nights my left hip has been hurting by about 4:30AM from laying on my left side all night.
Maternity Clothes?  Some.  I am wearing more leggings and dresses these days.
Movement?  Yes, this little baby is a mover for sure
Miss Anything?  Still blue cheese mostly, also ahi tuna and wine
Aversions?  None
Food Cravings?  I have been wanting sweets after I eat lately
Gender?  We have our sonogram on Friday, but they will put it in an envelope and we will find out on the 10th.
Labor Signs?  No, still too early
Best Moment this Week?  It's been a pretty quiet week this week, just busy with work and working on stuff in the house.

Looking Forward To?  Can't wait for our sonogram on Friday morning!!  I know we won't be finding out then, but I can't wait to drop the envelope off with our friend, Robbie, who is making our gender reveal cake!!

19 Weeks

How far along?  19 weeks
Weight Gain? 6lbs
Sleep? Sleep is very good
Maternity Clothes? Just bought some maternity jeans, I can only wear one pair of my normal jeans with my belly band. 
Movement? YES!!!  The first time I felt flutters was almost 2 weeks ago, it was the most amazing feeling ever!  Ben was able to feel the flutters on Saturday.  It just makes things so much more real.
Miss Anything? Wine and Blue Cheese.  We went out to dinner for Valentine's Day and I was really missing the ahi tuna that Ben was eating for dinner.
Aversions? None
Food Cravings? Crave sweets sometimes.
Gender? We still don't know, but soon!
Labor Signs? No, way too early
Best Moment this Week? Ben feeling the baby move!

17 Weeks

How Far Along? 17 weeks
Sleep? Sleeping pretty well, except my dog and cat want to be as close to me as possible, so I get really hot.
Maternity Clothes? Wearing more leggings and dresses. Jeans aren't very comfortable these days
Movement? Not sure, but I think I felt the baby move for a second last week.  Hopefully I will start feeling the baby soon.
Miss Anything? Still just blue cheese.  I have wanted a glass of wine every now and then.
Aversions? None
Food Cravings?  Nothing in particular
Gender?  We find out in a month
Labor Signs? Too early for that
Best Moment this Week?  Getting to hear the little biscuit's heartbeat this morning.  It was beating at 150bpm.

Happy or Moody Most of the Time?  Happy most of the time.  Although, Ben does things that get on my nerves on purpose, so that can make me moody.
Looking Forward To?  I am calling a daycare provider this week to ask about watching the Biscuit, so I am praying for a good outcome of that.  And I am looking forward to attending HAI (Heli-Expo) and seeing some old friends I haven't seen in a while.

First Flight

The little biscuit got to go on it's first helicopter ride this morning.  Any pilot that wants to land on the helipad at the Cowboy's Stadium has to be checked out by my company first, so my boss let me ride along today.

Sleep?  Sleep well for the most part, just have to get up 1-2 times a night to use the restroom
Maternity Clothes?  Not really yet, although I have a couple of loose shirts I wear.  I just use a rubberband for my pants that are too tight to zip.
